A 'Call for Justice' in Bhopal
The Bhopal Medical Appeal, (BMA) is a British NGO campaigning for a complete clean-up and mitigation of the city of Bhopal.
Alongside other groups of 'gas survivors', they are offering legal and medical assistance, physiotherapy, counselling, education and care for thousands of gas and water pollution victims and their children. For years The BMA has led the last on-going lawsuit against DOW Chemical is still pending before the Court of Appeals in New York City, USA. |
The long-running case seeks damages for injury, medical monitoring, and for the clean-up of water and soil.
While defending itself in court, DOW Chemical has been recently awarded a ten-year contract as a worldwide Olympic partner, and as the official chemistry company for the Olympic Movement from 2010 to 2020. Finally, it strives to disseminate the findings of its experience and research to other communities affected by irresponsible industrial activity elsewhere in the world. |
The Bhopal Medical Appeal funds two two clinics in Bhopal.
Chingari Trust is the unique rehabilitation centre located near the abandoned Union Carbide (now DOW Chemical) industrial complex in Bhopal.
It cares for children born with severe disabilities, as a consequence to drinking severely polluted water, or because they were born from parents who survived the killer gas-cloud in 1984. Sachin, 20 in 2014, Poonam's eldest brother, is attending the centre daily. |
Sambhavna Trust is the long-established health clinic located near the abandoned Union Carbide (now DOW Chemical) industrial complex.
It offers free medical care to thousands of registered 'gas-survivors' living in Bhopal. |
